Car Subscriptions in Spain

Spain has a large renting market, traditionally built on multi-year contracts for companies and the self-employed (autónomos).

Over the past few years, 'coche por suscripción' has emerged as a shorter, more flexible version: a monthly fee covering insurance, maintenance, road tax and ITV inspections, with commitments from one month to a year.

Bipi is the best-known subscription specialist, while SIXT+ offers subscriptions from its branches in major cities and islands. Leasing groups such as Ayvens and Toyota's KINTO add flexible renting aimed mainly at businesses. Subscriptions suit expats, people on temporary contracts and anyone waiting for a car, though monthly prices are higher than long-term renting.

Spain

Why choose a car subscription in Spain?

ITV inspections handled

The provider takes care of Spain's periodic ITV roadworthiness inspections and paperwork during the subscription.

Road tax included

The municipal circulation tax (IVTM) is typically built into the monthly fee.

Comprehensive insurance

Most subscriptions include fully comprehensive (todo riesgo) insurance and 24/7 roadside assistance.

No down payment

Unlike buying or some renting contracts, subscriptions generally start without an entrada.

Low-emission zone ready

Newer cars with the right DGT environmental label help with access to the low-emission zones (ZBE) spreading across Spanish cities.

Good for temporary residents

Shorter commitments suit expats, seasonal workers and people new to Spain who are not ready to buy.

Guide

How car subscriptions work in Spain

You choose a car online, select the term and mileage, and submit your DNI or NIE, driving licence and bank details for a solvency check. Many providers require you to be at least 21 and to have held a licence for one to two years. Cars can be collected from a branch or delivered for a fee. Insurance, maintenance, ITV and road tax are usually included; fuel, tolls, parking and fines are your own responsibility. Some plans add a fee for a second driver.

Things to check before you subscribe

  • Check whether unused kilometres roll over and the cost of excess mileage.
  • Confirm the insurance excess (franquicia) and what damage is covered.
  • Check minimum age and licence-holding requirements.
  • Ask about collection points, delivery fees and airport surcharges.
  • Read early-termination rules; some plans do not allow cancellation before the end of the term.

Business

Car subscriptions for business

Renting is well established among Spanish companies and autónomos, and flexible products such as Ayvens Flex and KINTO Flex are aimed specifically at them. How VAT and the monthly fees can be deducted depends on how much the car is used for business, so check with your gestor or asesor fiscal.
