Car subscriptions in France
One monthly payment. No long tie-ins. An independent, editorial guide to car subscription and flexible lease providers in France.
In France, car subscriptions sit between short-term rental and traditional long-term leasing (LLD).
Offers are marketed as an abonnement voiture or as location moyenne durée (LMD), typically running from one or two months up to 18 or 24 months. The monthly price usually bundles the car, insurance, maintenance and assistance, while fuel, tolls and fines remain your responsibility.
The market is led by rental and mobility groups such as SIXT and Stellantis's Free2move, alongside fleet lessors such as Ayvens that focus on business customers and EV specialists such as Beev. Many offers are concentrated in large cities, particularly Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Toulouse and Strasbourg. Compared with Germany the choice for private customers is narrower, so it is worth comparing subscriptions with LLD and LOA offers before deciding.
France
Subscription cars are usually recent, and any required contrôle technique and routine servicing are arranged by the provider.
French law requires at least third-party cover; subscriptions generally include it, often with damage cover and an excess that can be reduced for a fee.
The provider registers the vehicle and holds the certificat d'immatriculation, so you avoid ANTS paperwork.
Recent vehicles generally carry better Crit'Air ratings, which helps in cities with ZFE low-emission zones.
Medium-term rental lets you keep a car for a few months, for example during a job change or relocation, without a three- or four-year lease.
You return the car at the end, so depreciation and resale are the provider's concern.

Guide
You choose a vehicle or category, term and mileage package, then provide a valid driving licence, ID, proof of address and a bank card. Providers commonly set a minimum age and licence-holding period, and some charge a refundable deposit or a registration fee. The car is collected from a branch or delivered. Fuel, tolls (péages), parking and traffic fines are charged separately.
Business
Several providers have dedicated offers for companies and self-employed workers, often requiring a Kbis extract. Part of the rental may be deductible for businesses, and company cars used privately can create a benefit in kind (avantage en nature). Check the tax treatment with an accountant before committing.
LLD is a long lease, often 24 to 60 months, usually for a new car. A subscription or LMD runs for a shorter period, often one to 24 months, with more services included and more flexibility.
Usually yes, at least third-party liability and often damage cover with an excess. Check the excess level and optional cover.
No. Motorway tolls, fuel or charging and fines are generally charged to you on top of the monthly price.
Some providers cover several large cities or deliver nationwide, but many offers are concentrated in major urban areas. Check delivery zones before booking.
You return the car, extend or switch. The vehicle is inspected and you may be charged for damage beyond normal wear or for extra kilometres.
