About Cupra
The Cupra name, from Cup Racing, was first used by SEAT in the 1990s for its sportiest road cars, linked to the brand's touring car racing. Hot versions of the Ibiza and Leon carried the badge for two decades before SEAT relaunched Cupra as a standalone brand in 2018. Its distinctive copper-coloured tribal badge sets it apart from SEAT.
The first model designed specifically for Cupra was the Formentor crossover, which went on sale in 2020 and quickly became the brand's best-seller. Cupra has positioned itself as a more design-led, performance-flavoured alternative within the Volkswagen Group. Its UK line-up includes the Born electric hatchback, the Tavascan electric SUV, the Terramar SUV and the Formentor and Leon, which are available with petrol and e-Hybrid plug-in powertrains. The compact electric Raval is the brand's newest model. The brand also has a motorsport presence, including touring car and electric racing series.
Cupra on a car subscription
Cupra appeals to subscribers who want a sporty-looking car with a choice of plug-in hybrid or fully electric power. The Born and Tavascan are a good way to try an EV for a few months, and electric cars carry low Benefit-in-Kind tax for company car users. Check the insurance group and excess on more powerful VZ versions, the mileage allowance, and the real-world range of electric models if you regularly drive long distances.
