About MG
MG, short for Morris Garages, emerged in Oxford in the 1920s, when the Morris dealership began building sporting versions of Morris cars. The brand became famous for affordable two-seat sports cars such as the MGA and MGB, which were particularly popular in export markets including the United States. The octagonal MG badge has been in use since the 1920s.
After passing through British Leyland and the MG Rover Group, which collapsed in 2005, the brand was acquired by Chinese manufacturer Nanjing Automobile and then SAIC Motor. Today MG is known in the UK for good-value hatchbacks and SUVs and a broad electric line-up. Its EVs include the MG4, the S5 EV and S6 EV SUVs, the IM5 and IM6 and the Cyberster roadster, while hybrid models such as the MG3 and HS complete the range. MG has become one of the UK's fastest-growing brands over the past decade, largely because of competitively priced electric and hybrid models and a long manufacturer warranty.
MG on a car subscription
MG appeals to subscribers who want a low-cost way into a new car, particularly an electric one. Models such as the MG4 make it easy to try EV ownership for a few months, and electric cars carry low Benefit-in-Kind tax for company car drivers. Check the real-world range against your regular journeys, access to charging, the mileage allowance and the insurance excess on higher-performance versions like the MG4 XPOWER and Cyberster.

MG subscriptions: FAQs
Can I get an MG on a car subscription in the UK?
Yes. MG models are widely available through UK subscription and short-lease providers, often as an entry point to electric motoring. Availability changes, so check current listings.
Which electric MGs can I subscribe to?
The MG4 is the most commonly offered, with SUVs such as the S5 EV and premium IM models also appearing. Newer models may take time to reach subscription fleets.
Is MG still a British brand?
MG has British roots and a UK base, but it has been owned by China's SAIC Motor since the mid-2000s, and its current cars are designed and built mainly in China.
